The post-Christmas sale is the biggest of the season. You can get rock bottom prices on just about anything as the store scramble to sell this year’s goods to make way for next year’s.
It is the time of year I do most of my clothes shopping. I’ve gotten 3 pairs of jeans for $10, and replaced much loved tops for under $5 a piece. Everything is on clearance and a lot is being sold at cost.
So, what should you target at the after Christmas sales?
Clothing
The jeans are wearing thin, your favorite jacket has a hole, and your favorite sweater is stretched beyond any possible shape recognition. This is the time to replace them.
Clothing goes out of fashion so quickly, the stores are very motivated to move all their merchandise before the new year. You will find the best deals in this space between Christmas and new years.
Bras
I know, I know. We, as women, tend to neglect our bra wardrobe. Did you know you are supposed to replace bras at least once a year? Even if you think they aren’t worn out?
Just like clothing, bras will also be on sale. The downside is if you fall in love with the new bra and did not get enough of them, you might not see that exact style again. So err on the side of too many and then return the ones you don’t like.
Children’s Basics
Okay, you really can’t buy too much ahead of time when it comes to children’s clothing. When they are finally big enough to wear them, the season might be different than you thought.
But you can buy basics in the next few sizes. You know the style of PJ they like, and for the tiny humans that is unlikely to change. So if you find the perfect PJs, get them. a few short sleeve and long sleeve shirts are also good bets, and so are some leggings or jeans. And socks will always be on demand.
Don’t buy a coat or sweaters. Also, don’t get any shorts or swim suits (unless you swim regularly at an indoor facility). Just get basics you would wear nearly any time of year.
Shoes
Shoe trends move almost as fast as fashion trends. I have found $60 shoes on sale for $20. If your shoes are wearing thin, or if you want to buy the next few sizes for junior, it is a good time to hit the stores.
This year’s electronics
If you couldn’t afford that new TV on Black Friday, you might be able to afford it now. A lot of things are on clearance below Black Friday prices. Just don’t put yourself in debt for something that is a want, not a need.
Christmas Decorations
Decorations are always cheapest the days following the holiday. If you want to add to your decorations, now is the best time.
Misc
Developmental toys you think you might need over the course of the year, or presents for friends in the first quarter of the year are also good things to look for.
Honestly, most of what I buy happens now because it is so much cheaper.
